We’re partnering with Boozy Lectures to host a singles-only talk led by an MRU professor, exploring the science of scent and attraction.

The Lecture: Why your vomeronasal organ isn’t doing what marketers claim, how genetic diversity makes us all perceive smell wildly differently (and why that’s beautiful chaos for dating), and what happened when dating apps tried to match people by scent. We’ll explore why you can’t accurately smell yourself (olfactory adaptation is real, and yes, this creates dating anxiety), why your ex’s hoodie still haunts you months later (olfactory memory is the strongest kind), and how scent becomes an intimacy marker in relationships through the neuroscience of emotional bonding. Biology is messy, compatibility is complicated, and that’s exactly what makes connection interesting.

About the Boozy Professor: Dr. Anastasiia Stepanchuk is a neuroscientist who works at the intersection of science, scent, and human experience. With a background in biophysics, protein misfolding, and phenomenology, she runs ol.facto- a studio that translates brain science into scent-based experiences.

While her research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, Ana’s creative work explores fragrance as a medium for storytelling. As a neuroscientist, she’s particularly drawn to how scent shapes identity in moments of instability whether reconnecting dementia patients with long-held memories or helping people moving across cultures ground themselves through familiar smells.

She believes every scent tells a story, and her practice unites scientific inquiry with artistic expression to explore memory, belonging, and self-understanding.
